LLP tax changes continue despite protests

Hopes that the UK Chancellor would postpone tax changes to the LLP structure were dashed when he avoided the subject in his Budget in the House of Commons yesterday.

The changes were designed to clamp down on the scope for abuse within limited liability partnerships. But lawyers have tried to persuade the government that innocent firms will be caught and that honest law firms could be faced with large tax bills. The House of Lords had urged the Chancellor, George Osborne, to delay the change for a year as a minimum measure. But this has not happened. Firms have just a fortnight to prepare for the start of the new regime.
