Building on its 15 offices in Latin America and numerous regional hubs, Baker McKenzie is making a strategic investment in the creation of a US base for its Latin America practice, with the hire of a returning partner.

New chapter

As a part of this strategy, transactional attorney, Federico Cuadra Del Carmen has returned to Baker McKenzie. Jaime Trujillo, acting global chair and chair of the Latin America region, Baker McKenzie, explained “Our prime location in Miami, known as the gateway to the Americas, positions us as the bridge for US-based clients to effectively execute projects in Latin America, and vice versa. These cross-market insights will help us serve our clients in the Americas and beyond.” Colin Murray, Baker McKenzie's North American chief executive, said “The Latin America Practice service offering marks a new chapter in the firm's well-established history in Miami and in the Latin America region.”

Returning

Based in Miami, and fluent in both Spanish and English, Mr Del Carmen has significant experience working across borders in the Americas on domestic and cross-border M&A, private equity and corporate transactions. He is the first of several key hires that the Firm will make to build out the Latin America Practice further. “We are excited to have Federico back at the Firm. His experience working on a wide variety of corporate transactions, including mergers and acquisitions, private equity transactions in North America and Latin America will be a great benefit to our multinational clients,” said Scott Brandman, managing partner of Baker McKenzie's New York and Miami offices. Cuadra Del Carmen was an associate with Baker until July 2018, when he left to join Hughes Hubbard.
