WilmerHale battles former lawyer over bias claim

Leading US law firm WilmerHale is being sued by a former lawyer who accuses the global practice of illegally dismissing her while she was on maternity leave.

Washington DC: WilmerHale in bias battle

The Washington Post reports that Pamela Levinson -- a lawyer at WilmerHale’s Washington DC office from 2004 to 2012 -- was fired in February while on maternity leave after adopting a baby from China.

Vigorous defence

The case emerged just weeks after a US survey found that WilmerHale was among the leading firms in terms of female equity partnership rates. The firm posted one of the best female partner percentages at slightly more than 23 per cent.
WilmerHale co-managing partner Susan Murley said Ms Levinson’s claims are ‘completely without merit’ and that the firm plans vigorously to defend itself.
Ms Levinson is being represented by the Washington law firm Sanford Heisler, a class action litigation practice specialising in employment discrimination cases.
