Diego Andrade Max has been practicing law since 1992, with a focus on international trade, arbitration, public tenders in Mexico and Latin America, corporate, contracts, competition law, cross-border transactions, FCPA and UKBA compliance investigations in Latin America. He is licensed in Mexico, and is a foreign legal consultant certified by the Supreme Court of Texas. He was an intern at the ICC International Court of Arbitration in Paris in 1993. He has a doctorate from the Universität Wien, Vienna, Doktor der Rechtswissenschaft (Dr. iur.) and authored a doctoral thesis on international arbitration involving State-owned companies. This study analyzes investment disputes, sovereign immunity, international law, ICSID Arbitration and award enforcement. He also holds an LLM degree from the University of Chicago Law School. He has been in private practice with prestigious law firms in Mexico, the European Union and the United States. and has extensive in-house experience working across different industries and countries. Throughout his career he has acted in different capacities in public and private functions, including as an external governmental advisor during the negotiation of the Mexico–EU Free Trade Agreement (Global Agreement), and as antitrust attorney of the Mexico Federal Economic Competition Commission. For 20+ years he acted as General Counsel covering Latin America for major multinational corporations in the automotive, nutritional, pharmaceutical, energy and utilities sectors. During his role as General Counsel, he was involved in arbitrations, mediations and award enforcement in Latin America and the Caribbean. Throughout his career, Diego has negotiated major settlements in Latin America and secured major contracts in high-profile tenders throughout the Americas. Diego provides guidance navigating the inherent complexities of doing business in Latin America, conducts due diligence in the Americas, and protects clients from exposure to commercial risk. Diego advises foreign corporations doing business in Mexico and Latin America and provides strategic support to United States attorneys advising foreign clients doing business in the United States or cross-border transactions.
