Mariana’s career includes notable roles such as Director of Environmental Affairs at the Mexican Human Rights Commission, where she addressed critical issues at the intersection of human rights and environmental protection. She has also served as an advisor to prominent organizations, including the United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean, the Commission for Environmental Cooperation of North America, and the Inter-American Development Bank. A recognized thought leader in her field, Mariana has authored several influential works, including ’Handbook of Mexican Environmental Regulation’ (2021), ’Soil Pollution by Hazardous Wastes and Their Regulation in Mexico’ (2014), and ’Fracking and its Mexican Regulation: Its Social and Environmental Impacts’ (2022), all published by IIJ-UNAM. She is an active member of the Illustrious and National Bar Association of Mexico, the International Network on Climate Change, Energy and Human Rights, and the World League of Environmental Lawyers. In recognition of her expertise, Mariana was accredited as an environmental legal expert by the Federal Judicial Council in both 2017 and 2018.
