Matilde Lopes Alves is an associate in the EU and Competition Law practice at PLMJ. With six years of experience, she advises Portuguese and international clients in proceedings before the European Commission and the Portuguese Competition Authority, as well as in civil liability actions arising from anticompetitive practices. Her experience covers a broad range of European and competition law matters, with a particular focus on the defence of companies in cartel and abuse of dominance investigations, merger control, competition litigation, state aid, and the design and implementation of compliance programmes. Matilde has experience in complex Phase II merger control proceedings and in representing third parties with an interest in opposing notified transactions. Matilde holds a law degree from the Faculty of Law of Universidade Nova de Lisboa and an LLM in Competition Law from Queen Mary University of London.
