He has acted as counsel in numerous arbitrations under major arbitral institutions, including ICC, DIAC, ADCCAC, LCIA, DIFC-LCIA, ICSID, and UNCITRAL. He is a Solicitor-Advocate qualified in England, a registered Legal Practitioner of the DIFC courts, and also sits as an Arbitrator. He advises on disputes in a range of industry sectors including construction, commercial, energy, oil and gas, real estate, telecommunications, and shareholder disputes. Matthew also represents governments and multinationals in investment treaty arbitrations. Recognised in Legal 500’s Private Practice Powerlist for Arbitration in the Middle East, he is described as “showing great judgment in his dealings with the client and opponents”, “very good at managing the dispute process”, and “produces excellent written work and has great drive and enthusiasm”. He has written extensively on international arbitration including for Global Arbitration Review, ICSID Review, Euromoney Guide to the World’s Leading Experts in Commercial Arbitration, and the International Arbitration Review. He has spoken at a number of international conferences and delivers legal training sessions as part of the Dubai Legal Affairs Department’s CLPD programme. He obtained an MA Hons in History and Law from the University of Cambridge (Downing College).
