A fifth of couples consider post-Christmas divorce proceedings

One in five people is considering separating from a partner after getting to the end of a Christmas period truce, according to UK law firm Irwin Mitchell.

Research from Irwin Mitchell also suggests a spike in divorce preparations for the whole of this month. The firm's researches suggest that the level of divorce instructions went up 27% in January 2014, compared to the average month. The number of people who read the UK government web pages on divorce were 79% higher in January last year than they were in the previous month, according to the Ministry of Justice.
