A&O leads Magic Circle on UK growth

The second tier of UK firms is growing faster than the top 25. But Allen & Overy saw revenues increase the most among the Magic Circle, with four per cent growth, according to the results of LB100, the Legal Business 100.

The dynamics of the UK legal market has turned on its head as national-driven law firms outperform those at the top of the table Puntip Agitjarnrt

Overall, total revenue for the LB100 is down one per cent and headcount is down two per cent. But firms ranked 26th to 50th buck this trend and have seen revenues rise by an average of six per cent. Among the top 25, the average turnover was down two per cent. This is in part because the largest firms have the most exposure to international markets and currency fluctuations. 

Mergers

Bryan Hughes, chief executive of Eversheds, commented on the overall results of the LB100: 'There is no clear market trend because when you see lots of mergers and consolidation it is hard to see what is organic and what is just aggregation.' Source: Legal Business
