The book, which is written by lawyers for non lawyers, is primarily targeted at fashion designers and includes information on intellectual property rights, employment law, financing, manaufacturing contracts, licensing agreements and company law. The Legal Guide to Fashion Design was edited by IP lawyer David Faux with illustrations for the book coming from a student of Parsons The New School for Design.According to Faux, the idea was to provide the fashion industry with ‘a guidebook useful enough for every designer.’
Read what you sew
Commenting on the new publication, Susan Scafidi, Founder and Academic Director of the Fashion Law Institute, said that the ABA book ‘resonates with that spirit of helping designers to read what they sew. The Fashion Financing Chapter alone is an invaluable interdisciplinary resource.’
The book includes in each chapter forms, agreements and contracts for that phase of production or sales – from model runway releases to nondisclosure agreements for manufacturers to sample trademark applications.
