Addleshaw Goddard (AG) is set to enter the Netherlands after merging with Amsterdam-based corporate firm Florent, as the UK firm continues to buiild its footprint across Europe and the Middle East.

Florent's team of 17 partners and 44 lawyers will join AG at the start of next month, creating AG's 22nd office.

AG said the merger was a “significant milestone" in its AG2030 international growth strategy, citing the Netherlands' status as a major economy and important jurisdiction for international transactions, finance and disputes.

"Florent fills an important missing piece in our European platform," said Andrew Johnston, AG's managing partner. “Our clients increasingly operate across borders and expect consistently high-quality advice wherever it is required. For many, the Netherlands is a key jurisdiction and gateway to Europe."

Florent's team practices across corporate and M&A, disputes, restructuring and insolvency, commercial real estate, employment, banking and finance, and asset recovery. The firm's managing partners, Chris Jager and Kees van de Meent, will continue to lead the Amsterdam office.

AG's Netherlands debut continues an EMEA drive that began in 2019 when it opened its first continental European office in Hamburg.

Since then, the London-headquartered firm, which grew revenue 11% to £550.9m in FY25, has opened in three more German cities, Dublin, Luxembourg, Paris, Madrid and Riyadh. Last year, it opened in Abu Dhabi and added an 80-lawyer team from Linklaters to launch in Warsaw

The Florent merger is expected to complete on 1 July, subject to partner votes and regulatory confirmations, with all of Florent’s fee earners and business services staff expected to join AG.
