AI-powered adtech business MiQ has hired Matt Speiser as group general counsel, a newly created role at the company as it plans for its next phase of growth.

Speiser joined from marketing company Stagwell Brand Performance Network, where he was also GC. At MiQ, he will oversee the company’s legal team and help strengthen strategic external partnerships. He will be based in New York.

London-headquartered MiQ is a programmatic media partner and adtech business that uses AI to help brands with their ad campaigns. The company has offices across North America, Europe, Asia Pacific and India.

Kris Love, chief financial officer at MiQ, said: “As we continue to grow as an organisation, coming off of the heels of our MiQ Sigma launch, our new AI-powered advertising platform, Matt couldn’t be joining at a better time to help support the company in an ever-evolving regulatory environment.”

Speiser arrives after almost four years at Stagwell, having previously been GC at MDC Media Partners, which merged with Stagwell in 2021. He started his legal career as a private equity associate at Weil Gotshal & Manges.

He said: “I’m thrilled to be joining MiQ at an exciting and pivotal time for the business and for our clients, continuing into our next phase since launching MiQ Sigma in June. I look forward to partnering with all stakeholders to highlight and support MiQ’s continued investment as we continue to grow and scale as a business in this next era.”

In other recent media-related moves, US video games industry body Entertainment Software Association in May hired IP veteran Stan McCoy as GC, replacing Gina Vetere who stepped down in January.

In April, US radio giant iHeartMedia hired former CBS Sports GC David Hillman as chief legal officer, replacing Jordan Fasbender who left to join Comcast’s new cable business. That followed online radio broadcaster SiriusXM in February hiring former Airbnb CLO Richard Baer as GC, replacing Patrick Donnelly who was planning to retire in April.

And in December, Vogue and GQ publisher Condé Nast announced that it was hiring Antonious Porch as its top lawyer, replacing William Bowes who left earlier in 2024.
