Top-tier firm Allens is to launch a new career framework that includes associates and managing associates. From 1 July, the firm will operate under this new framework with the two new roles, and 30 lawyers will be promoted to a managing associate role. The position is between senior associates and partners, and Jane Lewis, Director of People & Development at Allens, told Australasian Lawyer that those in managing associate positions will be expected to play a key role in all aspects of the practice.

Less emphasis on seniority

The two new roles are not the only part of the career framework launching in July, for it also includes giving a new definition to the title 'talented lawyer,' having a greater emphasis on management, commerciality and flexibility. Ms Lewis told the magazine  that there will not be as much of an emphasis on seniority, but career progression will instead be based on skills, competence and performance.
