Argentina leads World Bank dispute list

Argentina accounts for more than 11 per cent of disputes being heard at the World's Bank tribunal, the International Court for the Settlement of Investment Disputes.

Of 439 legal disputes listed, Argentina is involved in 50 of them, taking first place, well ahead of Venezuela which comes second. But, according to the Financial Times, the total could fall from 50 to 45 if the Argentinian government issues US$500m in debt as a move to end arbitration claims filed by three US companies as well as the National Grid in the UK and Vivendi of France.
