Californian search engine company Yahoo has announced that Ron Bell has been promoted to the vacant general counsel position, taking responsibility for Yahoo’s global compliance programmes and legal affairs worldwide.
In a statement, Marissa Mayer -- the struggling technology company’s fifth chief executive in as many years -- said: ‘Ron Bell’s legal acumen, his outstanding service to the company over the past 13 years, and his leadership within Yahoo’s legal team make him an excellent choice for general counsel.’
Mr Bell joined Yahoo in 1999 and has been in various senior roles at the legal department. His new role is effective immediately and he will report directly to Ms Mayer.
Elsewhere, food service industry veteran Craig Prusher has joined Georgia-headquartered fried chicken chain Church’s Chicken as general counsel.
The Atlanta Business Chronicle reports that that Mr Prusher joined from fellow fast-food giant Burger King, where he had responsibility for legal issues concerning franchising, real estate and government and industry relations in North and Latin America. Before moving in-house, Mr Prusher was an associate in the corporate departments of two Boston-based law firms: Warner & Stackpole and Nutter McClennen & Fish.
