Addleshaw Goddard (AG) has continued the growth of its European network with the hire of a 20-strong team from Taylor Wessing in Germany.
The group spans corporate and M&A, private equity, restructuring and insolvency and is set to join the firm in Munich at the start of next year. It includes four partners – Hendrik Boss, Christian Saueressig, Sven Schweneke and Elisabeth Schalk – alongside five Taylor Wessing salary partners and a wider team of lawyers.
The team significantly expands Addleshaw Goddard’s Munich office, which currently has five lawyers, including three partners, according to its website.
Its arrival continues a European growth push AG began in 2019 when it opened its first office in the region in Hamburg.
Since then, the firm, which grew revenue 17% to £644m in FY26, has opened in three more German cities as well as Dublin, Luxembourg, Paris, Madrid, Warsaw and Amsterdam, where it debuted earlier this year through a merger with corporate boutique firm Florent.
Eckart Budelmann, head of Germany at AG, pointed to Munich’s status as a leading business hub in Germany and the centre of its private equity and venture capital market.
“Together with the deep restructuring expertise this team brings, we are strengthening our transactional practice, enhancing our ability to bring together the right expertise for clients, in Germany and abroad, wherever they need it,” he said.
The team’s exit follows a period of significant upheaval at Taylor Wessing, after the firm’s UK, Dutch and Belgian businesses left the international verein and combined with US firm Winston & Strawn to form Taylor Winston in June.
Last month, reports emerged Taylor Wessing, which now operates a European network of 16 offices across 11 jurisdictions and employs around 700 lawyers, was in merger talks with UK-founded Stephenson Harwood. The firm did not respond to a request for comment.
