Sparky lawyer moves in London, international human resources business appoints a GC and the Unversity of Kentucky gets a new top lawyer

UK National Grid lawyer moves on

Helen Mahy, the general counsel of the UK’s National Grid, has taken a new role at London-based legal staffing business Obelisk Legal Support.
Ms Mahy will take the position of chairwoman at Obelisk, reports the newspaper Legal Week. The 2010-founded business provides flexible staffing services for in-house legal departments as well as law firms.
Elsewhere, global human resources consulting company Towers Watson has appointed Kirkland Hicks as its general counsel. He will take on the role following the retirement of current GC Walter Bardenwerper on 25 November, according to Who’s Who Legal.
Meanwhile, William Thro – a former solicitor general in the US state of Virginia – has been appointed as general counsel at the University of Kentucky. Kentucky.com news web site reports that Mr Thro will start his new job on 15 October.
