JP Morgan Chase & Co has lost its retail-banking general counsel Matthew Biben. Mr Biben, who joined the firm three years ago, managed more than 425 lawyers. According to his linkedin profile, he helped negotiate JP Morgan's share of the industry's $25 billion foreclosure settlement in 2012.
Encylopaedia Britannica has appointed Doug Eveleigh as its general counsel and company secretary. Mr Eveleigh will be part of the executive management team and will be responsible for all legal affairs for the 246-year old digital education and media company worldwide. He succeeds William Bowe who is retiring after nearly 30 years in the position. He joins from Solo Cup Company, a multi-billion dollar international packaging company where he was assistant general counsel. Prior to htat he worked at Mayer Brown LLP.
Life Science company Bio-Techne has appinted Brenda Furlow as senior vice president and general counsel, She joins the company from a medical devices company and prior to that spent 10 years at life sciences company Promega.
The former co-head of Linklaters' US operations, Larry Byrne, is joining the New York Police Department (NYPD) to serve as deputy to the city's police commissioner Bill Bratton. Mr Byrne, who is currently a partner in the white collar litigation and investigations group at law firm Pepper Hamilton, will take up his position later this year.
Thompson Reuters general counsel Daragh Fagan has gone to Rentokil as general counsel and company secretary.This follows the retirement of Paul Griffiths who steps down after 35 years with the company. Prior to Thompson Reuters, Mr Fagan spent 10 years at Italian oil company Eni SpA after qualifying at law firm Herbert Smith.
