President Obama promotes Cherokee Rena Schild

A Cherokee Nation citizen is being nominated for promotion by US president Barack Obama from his current role as GC of the Army to under secretary of the Army. Brad Carson has also served for four years, until 2005, in the House of Representatives for Oklahoma. The nomination, which now needs to be confirmed by the Senate, was welcomed by Principal Chief of the Cherokees Bill John Baker who said: 'Brad is a Cherokee citizen and has committed his life to one of our Cherokee values: serving people.' John Bennett is to follow Jan Karpinsky as GC of the UK subsidiary of the Bank of Ireland. He was previously at RBS where he was transactional head of legal in the wholesale division. Source: The Lawyer

Marcia Lacey is being promoted to the positions of general counsel and executive vice president at Homesteaders Life from 1 January. She is currently associate general counsel and head of the company's legal and compliance team. Her move has been planned for a while, as she takes over from George Wilson, the GC for the past 30 years. Before joining Homesteaders, Ms Lacey was associate GC and chief compliance officer for American Equity Investment Lie Holding Co. Source: Business Record.

Defence giant Northrop Grumman is promoting assistant GC in the information systems sector Charlton Walker to vice president, associate GC and information systems counsel. He will report to Sheila Cheston, corporate VP and GC. Source: Washington Business Journal

As the central part of a succession plan at Kroger, Christine S Wheatley, senior counsel, assistant secretary and VP, is due to take over from Paul W Heldman as GC and secretary next year.
