The Central Intelligence Agency has a new general counsel - in the form of Caroline Diane Krass whose appointment has just been confirmed by the White House. She comes from the Justice Department's Office of Legal Counsel where she had been Principal Deputy Assistant Attorney General for nearly three years. She replaces Stephen Preston at the CIA who has gone to head the legal team at the Department of Defense. Ms Krass has previously served as special counsel to the President for national security affairs. Source: Main Justice
John C Ale has been appointed as general counsel, corporate secretary and senior vice president of Southwestern Energy. His appointment started at the New York Stock Exchange-listed company on November 1. Mr Ale joins from Occidental Petroleum where he was also general counsel. He had previously been a partner at Skadden, Arps and Vinson & Elkins. Source: The Wall Street Journal.
Independent broker-dealer Investment Planners has appointed Renee Emrick as general counsel and chief compliance officer. She will be implementing the compliance infrastructure of the organisation, as well as supervising its internal and financial controls and its written supervisory procedures. She was previously compliance attorney and assistant GC at 1st Global, the financial advice firm. Source: Compliance Week
The new general counsel and company secretary at Towergate Insurance is Jennifer Owens, who joins the company from William Hill. From the end of November she will sit on the executive committee and report directly to CEO Mark Hodges. Source: Insurance Age
