Global rental car company Hertz has recruited Tom Sabatino as its Senior Executive Vice President, Chief Administrative Officer and General Counsel. From February 9, Mr Sabatino will oversee legal, compliance, human resources, labour relations, communications, government affairs, community relations, real estate, facilities, and security. He joins Hertz from Walgreens Boots Alliance where he has served most recently as Executive Vice President, Global Legal and Chief Administrative Officer. He has also served as Executive Vice President and General Counsel at United Airlines and Schering-Plough as well as General Counsel at Baxter International and American Medical International.

Mr Sabatino has been replaced at Walgreens Boots Alliance by Marco Pagni, formerly group legal counsel and chief administrative officer of Alliance Boots, as executive vice president and global chief legal and administrative officer. In his new role Pagni will oversee all global legal affairs for Walgreens Boots Alliance and its divisions including strategy and mergers and acquisitions working with acting Chief Executive Officer Stefano Pessina. From 2007 Pagni served as group legal counsel and chief administrative officer of Alliance Boots. Previously he was general counsel and company secretary for Alliance Boots having joined Alliance UniChem a predecessor company in the same position in 2003. Prior to this Pagni served at McDonald’s Corporation for 10 years in a number of senior management positions across the world.

The company also appointed Jan Stern Reed most recently corporate vice president general counsel for Walgreen as senior vice president general counsel and corporate secretary for Walgreens Boots Alliance. She will also continue serving as general counsel for Walgreen. 

New Jersey Life Sciences company Cambrex has promoted Samantha Hanley to the position of Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary. She succeeds William Haskel who is leaving the company after three and a half years. Ms Hanley formerly held the position of Assistant General Counsel and Assistant Secretary at Cambrex. She previously worked at Alpharma Pharmaceuticals as Director of Intellectual Property and was an associate with Lerner, David, Littenberg, Krumholtz & Mentlik, an intellectual property law firm.

The former global markets head of legal at Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria SA (BBVA) has joined NetOTC. Joanne Theodoulou joined the company which is a new platform providing innovative risk management for non-standardised over-the-counter derivative transactions.
