Vodafone's head of corporate and external affairs, Justine Campbell, is to join British Gas as general counsel in December. The GC role is being reinstated, after the role was abandoned at the time of the departure of Melanie Rowlands in 2012, according to Legal Week. Ms Campbell will be inheriting the legal and compliance role of director of legal Jane Forster who left British Gas in May, and will be heading a team of 60. The energy supplier has been restructured this year in terms of its relationship with its parent Centrica.
Gregory Jordan, global managing partner at Reed Smith, has surprised the sector by leaving to take up the role of general counsel at PNC Financial Services Group, a client of the law firm. After 13 years at Reed Smith, he takes up his new position on 15 October. He was also surprised by getting the proposal from PNC, as recounted in the ABA Journal. Quoting comments made to the Pittsburgh Business Times, the ABA told the story in Mr Jordan's words: ' “I’m busy 24/7 running Reed Smith, so I didn’t have a resume, I wasn’t looking for a job. So, yeah, the call and the opportunity took me by surprise.'
Global Eagle Entertainment, a platform offering content and connectivity to the global airline sector, is appointing Jay Itzkowitz as general counsel and senior vice president, responsible for legal affairs worldwide. He joins from the London office of Cantor Fitzgerald, the financial services business, according to Compliance Week. He has also worked for Vivendi International and News Corporation.
Ben Ederington is taking on the roles of general counsel, secretary and vice president at Houston-based Westlake Chemical Corp. He takes over from Stephen Wallace who is retiring in December, according to the Houston Business Journal. Mr Ederington is arriving from LyondellBassell Industries where he has worked as associate general counsel.
