South Alaska

Calista Corp, an Alaska Native Regional Corporation, has appointed Bonnie J Paskvan as GC. She will work closely the board, executive teams and subsidiaries. Calista was created in 1971 'as a means of creating economic opportunities for approximately 12,900 Alaska Native Shareholders in Southwest Alaska'. 

Takata Corp, maker of air bags, has appointed Bruce D Angiolillo as GC of its North American subsidiary TK Holdings Inc. Currently a partner specialising in securities litigation at Simpson Thacher & Bartlett, he joins TK on 1 January. Takata has been in the media recently over the way its air bags work. Five deaths have been linked to the way they opened - allegedly too fast. 

Karen Buffkin, employed as the top deputy in the Connecticut Office of Policy and Management, is to serve as GC to Connecticut Governor Dannel Molloy when he starts his second term in the role. Ms Buffkin replaces Luke Bronin who, after two years in the post, is going to join a law firm in Hartford. Ms Buffkin will be paid $172,000 a year in the new role. 

Unum Group has decided who will replace Liston Bishop III who retires as GC in March. Lisa G Iglesias, who has over 20 years of experience in compliance and regulatory, will take over. She was most recently GC at WellCare Health Plans, based in Tampa, Florida. She joins in January and will work out of the Chattanooga office, overseeing the departments of law, audit, government affairs and compliance.

Alissa Starzak, President Obama's nominee to act as GC for the US Army, is not getting an easy ride from some of the Republicans in Congress. They have alleged that she may have played a role in stealing a batch of classified documents on the treatment of detainees. The documents are known as the Panetta Review. Ms Alissa was nominated in the summer and her nomination expired this month. It is unclear as yet as to whether she will be nominated again.
