Royal Dutch Shell has made two promotions in its legal team. Associate general counsel for litigation, Richard Hill, succeeds Brad Nielson as GC for global litigation. Martin Bambridge, associate GC for the energy giant's downstream portfolio, replaces former downstream legal chief, Hans von der Linde. Mr Hill joined Shell in 2012 from Fulbright & Jaworski (now Norton Rose Fulbright). Bambridge joined Shell in 2001 in the gas and power legal team, working on infrastructure projects in the Middle East and North America. He previously worked as an upstream lawyer for US-based Marathon Oil and British energy company LASMO.
Deutsche Bank AG has recruited a former official at the US Department of Justice and lawyer for former President Bill Clinton, as its general counsel for the Americas as the firm seeks to resolve legal probes. Steven Reich will report in to Deputy General Counsels Simon Dodds in London and Christof von Dryander in Frankfurt.The Frankfurt-based firm promoted Christian Sewing to the board in October to oversee legal affairs and has been seeking to resolve its part of industrywide probes into attempts by traders to manipulate markets. Mr Reich was a partner at law firm Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld in New York in white-collar defense practice between government roles. He takes up his role on 1 April.
Belgian food retailer Delhaize has promoted deputy general counsel Philippe Dechamps to the role of global general counsel and corporate secretary, following the departure of Maura Abel Smith last year.Mr Dechamps joined Delhaize Group in 2008 and most recently held the role of Senior Vice President, General Counsel Europe & Asia. Prior to Delhaize Group, he started his legal career at Linklaters, and then led legal functions and directed legal strategy in various divisions of Solvay Group, Guidant Corporation and Abbott Laboratories.
Energy company Chesapeake Utilities Corporation has hired James Moriarty as Vice President, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary. Mr Moriarty has over 25 years of experience representing leading companies on diverse energy projects as a partner in private practice at law firms Locke Lord and Fulbright & Jaworski. He has extensive experience providing legal advice to interstate gas pipelines and local natural gas distribution companies.His experience includes providing representation of equity investors in natural gas pipeline and storage development projects to serve shale plays; representation in a $10 billion merger to create the then-largest natural gas, natural gas liquids and refined petroleum product pipeline transportation company in the US and representation of the sponsors of a $65 billion project to construct and operate the largest natural gas treatment, liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal and transmission infrastructure facilities in the history of North America.
Vertu Motors has appointed Nicola Loose from Newcastle law firm Muckle to oversee its legal arm. Ms Loose will sit on the group’s operations board and oversee its legal department. She acted for Vertu Motors in its acquisition of Bristol Street Motors Group and its re-listing on AIM in 2007. Robert Forrester, Vertu Motors chief executive, said of the appointment: 'Nicola is a highly-respected lawyer, who has a wealth of corporate legal experience and knowledge. As the group expands we feel it is important that we have the required in-house expertise in the legal area and compliance.'
