A career GC, Stephen G Burns, took over as the chair of the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission on 1 January. Formerly head of legal affairs at the Nuclear Energy Agency of the OECD, he is the second career GC to take the top job at the agnecy. Marcus A Rowden, GC for the Atomic Energy Commission, took on the role in the 1970s.
Lawyer and entrepreneur Alexandra Migoya is joining Outside GC at its Washington DC office to work in the technology sector for the provider of on-demand, in-house legal counsel services. She was corporate counsel at VeriSign Inc for five years, working on e-commerce and general corporate matters.
Chris W Cotterill, formerly chief of staff for the City of Indianapolis and a lawyer specializing in public private partnerships, is to become the GC for the Indiana Economic Development Corporation. Mr Cotterill replaces Steve Akard, who was promoted in November to act as the corporation’s chief of staff.
Euan Sutton took over this week as group GC at cinema and entertainment business Vue Entertainment International, taking over from Anne Whalley who left in September. His main role will be to advise on risk management, mergers and acquisitions and joint ventures. He comes to Vue from TUI Travel where he was the GC for aviation, hotels and emerging markets.
The Inspector General of the CIA, David Buckley, is standing at the end of the month after four years as the internal watchdog at the agency. A statement from the agency said he was leaving to 'pursue an opportunity in the private sector, and officials denied that his departure was connected to political issues or to any of his investigations.
