James Baker is to become the general counsel at the FBI, the Federal Bureau of Investigation. He used to work with the current FBI director James Coney Jr in the administration of George W Bush. He worked in the Justice Department between 1990 and 2007. Mr Coney said: 'Jim's experience as a career prosecutor and as a national security official, as well his experience in the private sector, make him an excellent fit for his new position here at the FBI.' He takes over from Andrew Weissmann, the FBI's first GC, who left in October, after two years in the post. He now works at the New York University School of Law where he teaches. Sian McIntyre, a senior lawyer in the Lloyds Banking Group, is jumping ship to take on the role of head of legal for retail lending at Barclays Bank. Ms McIntyre was head of legal for channels and intermediaries, a sub-division within the Lloyds retail section. Source: The Lawyer
Gail Shulman, formerly general counsel at MIPS Technologies, has just taken up the GC and executive vice president post at United Online, the business which provides internet-based sales outlets including StayFriends and MyPoints. Tom McCabe has joined Orbital Sciences as GC, secretary and senior vice president. He was previously GC and senior VP at Alion Sciences and Technology. Orbital Sciences, based in Dulles, Virginia, is one of the world's biggest space technology companies. Its clients include civil governments and the military. Source: Who's Who Legal
Slot machine owner and operator Penn National Gaming is promoting Carl Sottosanti from the role of deputy GC to GC from 1 Feb. He takes over from Jordan Savitch, GC since 2002. Mr Sottosanti began in law at the Philadelphia firm of Schnader Harrison and went on to work for Sanchez Computer Associates and Salient 3 Communications. Source: Compliance Week
