Baker McKenzie has boosted its Washington DC office with the addition of two former high-ranking US Department of Justice officials.
Former US deputy attorney general Rod Rosenstein will lead the firm’s national security practice while former assistant director and senior trial attorney Tim Finley joins the firm as a partner in its antitrust practice.
During his nearly 30 years at the DOJ, Rosenstein held senior political appointments under the administrations of presidents George W. Bush, Barack Obama and Donald Trump, including as deputy attorney general, US attorney for Maryland, and principal deputy assistant attorney general for the DOJ’s tax division.
As chair of Baker McKenzie’s national security practice, he will lead a team addressing risks related to US government oversight, enforcement and national security concerns in areas including the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, anti-money laundering, sanctions and export control, customs and import compliance, CFIUS and foreign investment, cybersecurity and data privacy, as well as crisis management and reputational risk.
Baker McKenzie’s Washington managing partner Maurice Bellan commented: “Rod brings impeccable credentials, with an insider’s understanding of the enforcement environment and a keen awareness of the unique challenges our clients face.”
Rosenstein will also be a member of the firm’s North American litigation and government enforcement practice, as well as its global disputes practice.
An 18-year veteran of the DOJ, Finley joins Baker McKenzie as a partner in its antitrust and competition practice. While at the DOJ, he worked at both the antitrust division and consumer protection branch. He served in management as an assistant director and acted as lead counsel in many trials and investigations as a senior trial attorney.
At Baker McKenzie, he will focus on antitrust and consumer protection litigation, having led many trials and investigations involving multinational companies and senior corporate executives. Before entering government service in 2007, Finley was a partner with the DC-based Howrey law firm, which ceased operations in 2011.
Bellan added: “Tim brings an impeccable reputation and credibility that will be invaluable to our clients, particularly in this heightened enforcement environment. He joins our growing team of former senior government officials in Washington who are providing highly valuable insights to clients navigating parallel regulatory and litigation risks.”
In April, Baker McKenzie’s Washington office added former US Treasury official Scott Levine as a partner in its tax practice.
