In a scene yet to be covered by the long-running FOX cartoon, Bart Simpson faced sentencing at the hands of a judge named Mr Burns, reports The Independent.
Law-enforcer
Sadly, the defendant wasn’t a 10-year-old from Evergreen Terrace, but was instead Barton Simpson, 56, of Eccleshall.
And in a further blow to Springfield enthusiasts, the judge was not the malevolent owner of a nuclear power plant but Mr Recorder Burns, a respected law-enforcer.
Mr Simpson was hit with a community order, 140 hours of community work and an £80 legal bill after mistakenly carrying a .38 Smith and Wesson revolver in his hand luggage when attempting to board a flight to Croatia from Birmingham airport.
Punishment
The prosecution decided that Mr Simpson made an honest mistake due to his flat being redecorated and felt there was no need to disagree with his reasoning – an act which would never be extended to his spiky-haired namesake.
Mr Burns said: ‘It was a very stupid thing you did. You must be punished for it, but I think you can be dealt with by way of a community order.’
