UK insurance law firm BLM is to merge with Belfast's Campbell Fitzpatrick Solicitors. The firms share a number of clients and the eight partner Belfast firm will rebrand as BLM when the transaction is completed on 30 November. BLM was created after Berrymans Lace Mawer merged with Scottish firm HBM Sayers in May 2014. Commenting on the Belfast merger, Mike Brown, senior partner at BLM said: ‘This combination completes our physical presence across the United Kingdom and Ireland. It allows us to further develop our business in accordance with our customers’ needs. Both firms have their roots firmly embedded in risk and insurance litigation. We share a clear focus and ambition to remain as a specialist and leader within the risk and insurance sector.'

No money deal

CFS’s senior partner, Cormac Fitzpatrick, said: ‘The combination with BLM is an extremely positive move for us. This was a no money transaction and was a voluntary decision, a decision we wanted to do rather than one we needed to do. We share the same aspirations and already work with many of the same customers. We share the same vision, style and approach to our business. It was a very easy decision to make to combine with BLM. Our customers want a firm that provides more than just legal services and can provide it in a range of global markets. They want a firm that is embedded into the wider risk and insurance world and now we can certainly provide that. The future is very exciting for us and we are thrilled to be a part of BLM’.
