Global confectionary, food and pet care business Mars has appointed Myriah Gambrell-Glenn as general counsel for its snacking business, filling the seat left empty by the departure of Lisa Mather earlier this year.
Gambrell-Glenn is currently GC for Mars’s pet nutrition business line, and will take up her new role on 1 December, leading the global legal function for the Mars Snacking division, overseeing legal strategy, compliance and risk management. She will report directly to Mars Snacking global president Andrew Clarke with a “dotted line” to Mars GC Stefanie Straub.
Mars Snacking is a unit of the broader Mars company, which also includes Mars Petcare and Mars Food and Nutrition. Mars Snacking owns confectionery brands including Snickers, M&M’s, Twix and Maltesers, and gum brand Wrigleys.
Clarke said: “Myriah’s pedigree speaks for itself. She has built an outstanding track record at Mars, combining deep legal expertise with strategic insight. Just as importantly, she is a dedicated people leader who has a keen ability to spot potential and turn it into performance.
“This combination will be invaluable as we continue to navigate today’s complex legal and regulatory environment while expanding our global snacking footprint.”
Gambrell-Glenn joined Mars brand Wrigleys in 2010 as senior IP counsel before being promoted to associate GC for IP and chief patent counsel in 2013. She then became associate GC, IP - patents and technology for the rebranded Mars Wrigley business in 2017, later becoming chief compliance officer for the broader Mars business until being appointed GC for Mars Pet Nutrition at the start of 2023.
Prior to her time at Mars, she spent more than six years at Dykema Gossett as an IP attorney and patent agent and four years at Harness Dickey & Pierce as a patent specialist and patent agent.
She said: “I’m stepping into this role at a generational moment for our snacking business. It’s clear to me our legal team is uniquely positioned to be a strategic partner by enabling and accelerating our snacking growth agenda – creating the conditions for innovation to flourish at speed and scale while driving strong governance. I’m looking forward to partnering with such a talented team as we take on this opportunity together.”
Mather, meanwhile, left Mars in June after just over three years with the business, which she joined from PayPal where she was chief international counsel. She also worked in-house at Colgate-Palmolive, including as GC for its Asia Pacific division. Prior to that, she worked in private practice, first at Clifford Chance before moving to Paul Weiss and later Ashurst, where she spent seven years.
In May last year, US doughnut giant Krispy Kreme hired former Mars lawyer Atiba Adams as chief legal officer, replacing Catherine Tang. Adams had been GC of Mars Global Petcare and Mars Global Chocolate earlier in her career.
