Management board partner James Burns described the move as ‘an extremely exciting development for Clyde & Co’, providing the opportunity to expand into the Australian market, as well as to increase work across South East Asia.
Wealth of opportunity
The Australian practice – which will open formally on 1 October 2012 -- will initially have a contentious focus, alongside insurance and reinsurance. Australia’s growth in sectors in which Clyde & Co has a strong international reputation -- such as insurance, natural resources, infrastructure and construction -- are cited by the leadership as providing a wealth of opportunity for the firm.
A team from Australian law firm Allens will join the practice at the new offices, as well as joining existing Clyde & Co outposts in Hong Kong and Singapore. As of October, Clyde & Co will employ more than 1,400 lawyers in 29 offices across six continents.
