Contention over efforts to regulate telecoms in Turks and Caicos

Efforts to regulate telecoms in the Turks and Cacios has met with parliamentary opposition.

The Turks and Caicos is in the throes of a parliamentary debate over legislation to regulate telecommunications and broadcasting under a single regulator. The Bills, the Broadcasting Commission Bill and Telecommunications Bill 2014, would create a Telecommunications Commission to regulate the currently unregulated telecoms industry in the Turks and Caicos.  The controversial legislation has seen much opposition. Whilst all agree that regulation is necessary, there is great debate  over whether a Telecommunications Commission should also regulate broadcasting. Source: tcweeklynews.com
