Historic attitudes favouring globalisation are fundamentally changing....
Working in a legal department can be as stressful as working at a BigLaw firm with juggling a number of jobs at once just one of the stresses they encounter, according to in-house lawyer Susan Moon, Writing in 'Above the Law', she says that most in-house lawyers deal with 20 to 30 different matters at once, many with short deadlines. Furthermore, it involves 'more complex and potentially stressful office politics and relationships, just because you work with so many different people. This means more individuals whom you may unintentionally upset.'
Long hours
She also said that hours can also be an issue with few in-house lawyers rarely working 'the mystical 9 to 5 day', Furthermore, the more ambitious you are, the more hours you have to put in, 'The top lawyers at a company often do work as much or more than many large law firm lawyers.' And she added that as business clients did not get charged for in-house legal time 'they have few qualms about reaching out to their company lawyers, even for matters that aren't legal issues.'
