Cuatrecasas has launched the 11th edition of its equity-free accelerator programme for technology start-ups, Cuatrecasas Acelera.

This year the programme will focus on providing legal and business guidance to start-ups in the healthtech, energy, fintech, deeptech, defence and aerospace sectors.

Francesc Muñoz, CIO of Cuatrecasas, said: “After a decade of Cuatrecasas Acelera, we have evolved edition after edition by listening to the ecosystem and better understanding which legal and regulatory challenges truly condition the growth of a start-up.

“That is why, in this new call for applications, we are reinforcing that approach and broadening our focus to areas such as defence and aerospace, where regulatory complexity is especially crucial.”

The firm will hold legal seminars in Madrid, Barcelona and Lisbon in the lead up to the 26 June deadline for registrations.

The programme’s participants will be chosen by a selection committee made up of Cuatrecasas partners and external collaborators.

A closing event will be held in Madrid in February next year. It will be attended by the leaders of the participating start-ups, their mentors, investors and clients, when the winning start-up will be unveiled.

Portuguese free digital paediatrician clinic Usawa Care was chosen as the winner of the 10th edition of the programme in February.

Cuatrecasas Acelera is integrated into Cuatrecasas Innova, a unit created by the Barcelona-headquartered firm last year to house its various innovation initiatives.

Other initiatives include the technology piloting programme Cuatrecasas Fast Track and Jornadas Legales – a series of legal and regulatory seminars for start-ups.
