While Davis Polk has not differentiated itself on the top or bottom level of the bonus range - $15,000 and $100,000 - it is standing out because it is increasing the rate for some associates in the middle range. This means that associate classes for 2009 to 2011 will have a bonus of between $50,000 and $80,000 - rather than in the $40,000 to $70,000 range offered by Simpson Thacher & Bartlett, the firm seen as setting the benchmark.
