Anna Alaburda graduated in 2008 from the Thomas Jefferson School of Law at the top of her class, but was unable to find full-time work as a lawyer after nearly a decade of searching. She sued the California-based law school, claiming that its post-grad employment stats were misleading and that she would not have enrolled had she known this was the case.

Ms Alaburda’s claim was the first of its kind to reach the courtroom, but has been dismissed by a jury in California by a majority of 9-3.

Michael Sullivan, acting for Thomas Jefferson, acknowledged ‘isolated mistakes’ and ‘clerical errors’ in the law school’s data collection, but explained that there was no evidence that the school lied.
