The fines were handed out by the European Commission in relation to the existence of two cartels, both relating to interest rate products in Swiss francs. The Royal Bank of Scotland was given immunity for blowing the whistle on one cartel. Credit Suisse said in a statement: ‘Following discussions with the EU commission, Credit Suisse has decided to settle this case . . . in order to avoid lengthy legal proceedings.’ Source: Financial Times
