Shareholder activism saw a decline last year in Europe, according to a report by law firm Schulte Roth & Zabel. The continent saw 24 per cent less companies publicly targeted by an activist. Unlike the US, where investor activism is soaring with some 75 per cent of companies targeted by activists, the report said European cultural and legal differences combined with a lacklustre economy was making it more difficult to force boards to change strategy.
