She takes over from Eric Holder who has taken a tough line against the financial sector. Some of the banks will be able to heave a sigh of relief now that Mr Holder is on his way out. He has extracted record fines from the sector and has pursued Bank of America, JP Morgan Chase and others. He is now believed to be in the process of bringing a case against Morgan Stanley. He had encouraged the prosecution of individuals at erring banks.
Cahill Gordon
Ms Lynch has been confirmed after a lengthy confirmation process. She left the Washington DC-based office of Hogan Lovells predecessor firm Hogan & Hartson when President Obama nominated her as Attorney for the Eastern District of New York. She has also worked at New York-based Cahill Gordon & Reindel, where she held her first legal job of litigation associate. Source: New York Times
