Four London lawyers have made the grade in Latham & Watkins' latest partner promotions round, which has seen 26 associates made up globally.
The promotions, effective 1 January 2027, follow the firm making up 22 counsel to the partnership earlier this year. The cohort is slightly smaller than the 40 associates that were made up at the start of this year, Latham's largest number since 2022.
The proportion of women making partner has fallen to 30% from 40% in the January 2026 intake.
The London promotions included M&A and private equity lawyers Michael Houlder and Harry Redford alongside tax lawyer Aaron Bradley and banking and private credit lawyer Philipp Hagenbuch. The London office, with more than 150 partners, is the firm's second largest after New York and last year topped $1bn in revenue for the first time. Globally, the firm brought in $8.3bn.
The US accounted for 80% of the cohort, with 11 associates elevated in New York, followed by five apiece in the Bay Area and Los Angeles and three in Washington DC. The rest of the US promotions were spread across Chicago, Boston, Austin, Houston and Orange County.
Europe accounted for the remainder, with three making the grade across Brussels, Munich and Hamburg.
The banking and private credit and M&A and private equity practices dominated, with eight and seven promotions respectively. The M&A practice worked on deals worth $457bn in the first nine months of the year – the strongest opening period for dealmaking since 2021 – earning Latham third place in London Stock Exchange Group's ranking by deal value behind Sullivan & Cromwell and Kirkland & Ellis.
There were also three promotions each in transactional tax, commercial litigation and IP litigation, and two apiece in the antitrust and capital markets teams.
Rich Trobman, chair and managing partner, said the newly promoted partners "reflect the depth of talent and excellence across our firm".
He added: “Our success is built on the dedication and drive of our people, as well as our ability to assemble world-class teams for clients navigating an increasingly complex world. Our new partners represent the best of Latham’s values, and they will play a key role in shaping the future success and growth of our firm."
