Freshfields has hired a private equity partner from Pérez-Llorca to lead its Madrid-based private equity team.
Pablo will take up his new role as partner to help drive the expansion of Freshfields’ global M&A and capital practice.
His hire follows PE and M&A partner Armando Albarrán, the former head of the firm’s corporate/M&A and capital markets groups in Spain, defecting to Gibson Dunn & Crutcher earlier this year to help launch its Madrid office.
González Mosqueira brings extensive experience in the private equity market alongside a strong background in M&A and corporate law, having spent the past 20 years at Pérez-Llorca, 12 of them as a partner at the firm. He advises Spanish and international clients on corporate transactions, including joint ventures and capital markets transactions.
Bosco Montejo, managing partner of Freshfields’ Madrid office, said: “Pablo brings a wealth of experience that complements our existing capabilities in Spain. His focus on private equity and his collaborative approach make him an outstanding addition.”
David Franco, head of global M&A and capital in Madrid, added Mosqueira’s hire “accelerates our continued growth” in the European private equity market.
Mosqueira began his career as an associate in the corporate M&A department at legal services firm CMS Albiñana & Suárez de Lezo, and also had a six-year spell as a law professor at Segovia-based IE University between 2010 and 2016.
According to S&P Global, M&A volumes soared to $861.1bn globally in the first quarter of this year, marking the strongest start to a year since 2021.
Cross-border M&A has remained elevated, led by US investors, who are targeting European assets, making Europe the most targeted region with 986 inbound transactions.
However, geopolitical uncertainty may influence those trends in the short-term.
Last month, Freshfields announced private capital partner Victoria Sigeti as its new UK managing partner, succeeding Mark Sansom who is moving to the role of global client partner for the firm.
