Axel Reidlinger is leaving to set up his own boutique practice, meaning that there will be five associates in the Freshfields office in the Austrian capital who practice antitrust but no partners.

Mr Reidlinger was one of 14 Freshfields partners in Vienna. His exit comes at the same time as three partners leave Freshfields in London. According to Who's Who Legal, Mr Reidlinger's specialisms 'include competition law, public procurement law and energy regulatory law'.

The boutique practice has already been set up and is called Reidlinger Schatzmann Rechtsanwalte. The establishment of boutique practices by partners exiting the top firms has become an established international trend - in areas including competition and real estate. Conflicts of interest in large firm mean that some of these partners can find it easier to take on clients in smaller outfits. Sources: Legal Week and Reidlinger Schatzmann Rechtsanwalte
