FTSE 100 puts lawyers on boards

The number of lawyers on the boards of the FTSE 100 has doubled from 14 to 31 in the 17 months, according to an analysis by legal consultant Nick Deeming.

Mr Deeming, a non-executive director at recycling company MBA Polymers, said: ‘There is no doubt that demand is growing. When you compare it to other countries, the numbers are still relatively low, but boards are starting to see that lawyers are not just people who say ‘no’ but people who bring a significant commercial awareness.’ The UK still lags behind the US and Germany, for instance. Over half the boards of the Fortune 100 include a lawyer on the top table. Source: The Sunday Times
