Gateley partners receive £25m from successful UK flotation

The UK's first listing of a law firm has gone ahead successfully - raising £30m on the junior AIM market, enough to return £25m to former partners and to provide £5m of working capital and for strategy implementation and the transition from an LLP.

London: The first UK law firm has listed on the Stock Exchange

Some 10% of clients invested in the business which now has a market capitalisation of some £100m. Staff and partners were also buyers of the new stock. Shares began trading in Gateley plc at 8am yesterday. After a brief rise of 20p, they went back to the original float price of £1 per share. 

Client numbers 

The company now describes itself as providing 'high quality, integrated partner-led, client-focussed legal services across five core groups to over 4,000 corporate and 1,500 private clients. These core areas are Banking and Financial Services, Corporate, Business Services, Employment and Pensions and Property'.
