This is one of the pieces of advice given to in-house lawyers by Kathleen Keller-Hobson, a specialist in shareholder activism and other corporate issues. A partner in Gowling Lafleur Henderson, she writes in Canadian Lawyer magazine: 'You should have in place a response team of key members of senior management, legal advisers, financial advisers, a proxy solicitation firm, and a public relations firm.' Other suggestions include reviewing quorum arrangements for shareholder meetings, reviewing the investor relations program and monitoring trading activity in the company's shares.
