Google has been blocked this week in China as a dispute has blown up with the US, belatedly following some of the Edward Snowden revelations and coinciding with the 25th anniversary of the Tiananmen Square massacre. The People’s Daily, the organ of the Communist party, said that US companies such as Yahoo and Facebook posed a security threat in China. Mr Drummond said, in an emailed statement, that Google does not share information with the US government. He said: ‘We cannot say this more clearly – the [US] government does not have access to Google servers – not directly, or via a back door, or a so-called drop box. We provide user data to governments only in accordance with the law.’ Source: Financial Times
