Fund finance lawyer Jeremy Cross is one of the new partners

US firm Haynes Boone has made a twin partner hire in London from Addleshaw Goddard and Signature Litigation to strengthen its funds and arbitration practices.

The incoming partners are fund finance lawyer Jeremy Cross, who joins from Addleshaw – where he led the firm’s UK fund finance practice – and international arbitrator Philipp Kurek, who joins from Signature.

Cross brings more than 30 years’ experience across the full range of fund finance, including subscription facilities, NAV financing, asset-backed structures and lines for GPs and management companies. His practice spans both lender- and borrower-side representations, positioning him to support clients across the lifecycle of fund finance transactions.

Kurek’s practice covers investor-state and cross-border commercial arbitration. He frequently handles high-value disputes between investors and states and represents clients in commercial arbitrations across all the major institutional rules. He has represented clients in the energy, infrastructure, telecommunications, financial services, pharmaceuticals, technology and aerospace sectors. He will work with Haynes Boone’s clients in the energy, mining and metals industries.

Cross’s appointment comes amid significant activity in the fund finance sector, where both US and UK firms compete to advise lenders and sponsors on intricate, cross-border fund finance deals, reflecting ongoing market expansion.

“Jeremy is a highly respected fund finance lawyer with a sophisticated practice,” said Albert Tan, global head of fund finance. “His experience across the full range of fund finance products, combined with his strong relationships across Europe, makes him an excellent addition to our global team.”

Prior to joining Addleshaw Goddard in 2021, Cross established and built the London fund finance practice at Cadwalader Wickersham & Taft in 2016, where he spent five years. He also previously served as head of finance at legacy SJ Berwin, later King & Wood Mallesons, which has since dissolved.

Earlier in his career, he gained in-house experience at HSBC and served as a partner at Osborne Clarke, having also worked as an associate at what is now CMS.

“Jeremy’s arrival is another important step in the continued growth of our London office,” said London managing partner Nick Davis, who joined last year. “We have made significant investments in London over the past 18 months, and Jeremy’s addition enhances our ability to serve clients in key areas of demand. His experience and collaborative approach will be a great fit for our team and our clients.”

Cross and Kurek’s arrivals takes the number of Haynes Boone’s lateral partner hires in London to eight since January 2025, with the office having moved to larger premises in the City of London last December to support its growth.

Kurek joined last week after just over two and a half years at Signature Litigation. He previously spent 14 years at Kirkland & Ellis, six of them as a partner, where he helped to build out its investment arbitration capabilities, as he did at Signature.

“Philipp’s arrival reinforces our continued investment in capabilities that are critical to our clients and augment our existing strengths,” said Davis. “His track record in investor‑state arbitration and complex disputes adds depth to our team and enhances how we support clients in arbitrations.”

Kurek will work closely with Haynes Boone’s disputes teams, its Latin America practice and the Mexico City office. He will also support firmwide initiatives to address emerging regulatory, transactional and geopolitical risks.

“Haynes Boone is at an exciting point in its growth, particularly in London,” said Kurek. “There is a clear ambition to grow the London office and the international arbitration practice, and I’m looking forward to contributing to that.”
