Homeland lawyers 'sloppy' with copyright requests

A scatter bomb approach to tackling piracy has seen 20th Century Fox appear somewhat clumsy in their efforts to protect prized assets such as Emmy Award-winning drama Homeland.

Homeland: lawyers launch piracy attack

The Verge reports that Fox lawyers are blitzing Google with DMCA (Digital Millennium Copyright Act) notifications.
However, included in the takedown requests is Creative Commons-licensed book ‘Homeland’ which is actually a sci-fi story rather than a tale of CIA operations, torture and prisoners of war.
Ironically, the Cory Doctorow book ‘Homeland’ is actually centred on censorship.

'Careless and indifferent'

Mr Doctorow has accepted the requests include mistakes, but has taken issue with Fox’s elaborate defence of their prized show.
Mr Doctorow questioned how ‘anyone sending a censorship request could be so sloppy, careless and indifferent to the rights of others that they could get it so utterly wrong’.
The author adds that he is looking into legal avenues to fend of Fox’s requests, but admits that he is ‘not optimistic’ of finding a solution.
