Hong Kong lawyers take to the streets

Hong Kong lawyers are taking to the streets in a rare protest against proposals to brand judges as administrators who must love the state.

Hong Kong lawyers are set to protect against a White Paper which the State Council published branding judges as ‘administrators’ who have ‘a basic political requirement to love the country’. Next Friday’s silent march has been organised by Dennis Kwok, who is the legal sector’s representative on the Legislative Council. Mr Kwok expects legal practitioners dressed in black to join the march which will leave the High Court and finish at the Court of Final Appeal. The Hong Kong Bar Association has spoken out against the White Paper unlike the Law Society of Hong Know which has backed the document. Source: The Standard.com.hk
