Indian moves to liberalise legal services were being delayed by the process of consulting every bar council, lawyers attending the Indo-US Cross Border Investment Forum in Delhi were told.  Addressing a session on the liberalisation of legal services Union law ministry secretary PK Malhotra, pointed to  the Bar Council of India’s (BCI) consultation process on the issue of liberalisation. Mr Malhotra would not be drawn on a timeline for liberalisation. However, Society of Indian Law Firms (Silf) president Lalit Bhasin said that the BCI was the appellant in the writ pending in the Supreme Court against the entry of Foreign law firms and could withdraw its appeal.
